Michael Condon Crough Lower listed here was a Volunteers during the War of Independence and on the Anti Treaty side in the Civil War. Michael was a scout for Liam Lynch and on the night of the 9th of April Michael spent all night with another scout Bill Houlihan at Crough Schoolhouse until 4 am when the Free State soldiers arrived. They then moved to warn Liam and party and went with Liam up the glen and Michael was there when Liam was fatally wounded, he managed to evade capture that day. We have a very detailed eyewitness account from Michael Condon which can be read in our Commemorative Calendar which is on sale online now through our website https://liamlynchcommemorationnewcastle.ie/ and from local shops.
