Just under 100 walkers left Newcastle to “Follow the Footsteps” taken by General Liam Lynch 100 years ago tomorrow.
We left the location of Houlihans Safe House where Liam Lynch had his last meal and just shy of 30 walkers took the 6km route while the remainder braved the 11.5km trek back to Nugents Pub in Newcastle.
Despite the wet conditions, all walkers thoroughly enjoyed the morning on the Knockmealdown Mountains and the history along the way from our historian Michael Desmond was fantastic.
This walk could not have happened without certain individuals so our thanks first and foremost to Michael, your knowledge and love for the topic is second to none.
With thanks also to Mark Rylands, Kevin O’Donnell, Margo Kelly, Anthony Murphy, and all the crew from Knockmealdown Active and all the crew from the Nire Valley Bogtrotters for their assistance with stewards. Thanks to the ladies on registration and thanks to John, Jason and Lee on the busses and thanks for course to all who joined us.
