John Foley talks about Liam Lynch and the making of his film “THE DYING DAYS”

Who was Liam Lynch? When people ask me that, I ask them if they know who Michael Collins was. When Michael Collins was shot during the Civil War, Liam Lynch was his opposite number on the anti-treaty site.

Whether you agree or disagree with Liam Lynch he was a very significant leader in the Irish Civil War. Dolores Lyne in the photo below gave me a beautiful painting of Liam Lynch which she titled “Scratching From Memory”.

As we approach the 100th anniversary or the the death of Liam Lynch and the effective ending of the Civil War many events are taking place between now and April. In addition Gerard Shannon’s book about Liam Lynch: “To Declare a Republic” has been released to book shops country wide this week.

It has been an amazing project to have produced our film THE DYING DAYS in time for the centenary. I understand that all tickets for he 7pm screening in Newcastle on the 9th of April were sold out within six hours of going on sale today. We built the set below especially for the closing scene of the film. Dolores who is a grand niece of Liam Lynch is also a talented artist and set designer. Her magic is obvious in the set which looks like it would have done 100 years ago.

Due to the huge demand we will hold a second screening of “The Dying Days- The Final Journey of General Liam Lynch 1923” on Easter Sunday 9th April at 8:30pm

***Tickets will go on sale on Saturday 4th March online and in McCarras Shop and O’Dwyers Shop Newcastle***
