Safehouses of South Tipperary

This is the house Liam Lynch stayed in on the night of the 9th of April 1923. It belonged to Michael Condons family and is now owned by his nephew Bob Condon. It is about 1km from the Houlihan safehouse and about the same distance from Goatenbridge. Liam Lynch would have felt very safe in this Republican stronghold amongst loyal comrades.

Michael Condon was a scout for Liam Lynch at Crough Schoolhouse with volunteer Bill Houlihan and he saw the Free State soldiers arrive in Goatenbridge at 4 am and they immediately warned Liam and his party.

Michael’s detailed statement and a full explanation of the events can be found in our commemorative calendar which is on sale in local shops and online at www.liamlynchcommemorationnewcastle.ie

and will be on sale all throughout our commemorative weekend in Newcastle on the 8th, 9th and10th of April.
