HISTORY OF THE DAY, ON THIS DAY – 17TH MARCH 1923


On the 17th March, Liam Lynch left Gurteenflugh on the first stage of his journey to the Executive meeting, the venue of which had been changes to Bliantas, three miles east of Ballinamult at the foot of the Moonavullagh mountains.

Todd Andrews travelled with him as far as Araglin.At Carriganimma they were joined by Tom Crofts, Tom Barry, Humphrey Murphy and Sean McSwiney. They then travelled via Kilavullen, Rockmills and Ballindangan to near Mitchelstown. Through Araglin they went to the neighbourhood of Mount Melleray where they stayed at Sean O’Donnels, Knockboy, Hackett of Movera and Willie Donoghue of Crowhill.
